And that’s a wrap – for THIS season’s National Park Service events.
The final summer event happened on Sunday, at the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park during National Park Week and National Junior Ranger Day.
Thank you to Ranger Sanya who led the program. We both read IF I WERE A PARK RANGER to several families who stopped by – and met a young person who had collected more Junior Ranger badges than I had ever seen! Incredible!
The kids made their own Junior Ranger hat and vest, too. So much fun that day!
What fun to visit the Homestead National Historical Park in Beatrice, Nebraska for their “Read with a Ranger” program last month. Ranger Tanner and I read IF I WERE A PARK RANGER to families visiting the park. Afterward I explored the park, which highlights the history of homesteading beginning in the 1800s, presenting both the pioneers’ and the Indigenous people’s perspective.
Excited to share news of this upcoming book (2027): THE CHRISTMAS FREIGHTER
Have you seen a Great Lakes freighter in a lock, on a lake or traveling SOOO CLOSE down the rivers that divides the U.S. and Canada? Like so many others, I was fascinated – and wondered about life onboard, especially during the holidays.
This picture book will feature a fictional (but research-based) story about one Christmas holiday for the Captain and crew on a Great Lakes Freighter.
Minnesota-based illustrator Hayley Cleary’s work is fantastic! And she also hails from a state touched by the Great Lakes.
So glad to be onboard for the first time with publisher Beaming Books and Editor Naomi Krueger.
Special thanks to Jennifer Mattson, formerly of Andrea Brown Literary Agency!
Much love to Dad, also a fan of these amazing freighters.
Yay for Julia, for helping create this announcement
Imagine – your book about park rangers, featuring the Grand Canyon – read by a park ranger to visitors at… the GRAND CANYON!
So amazing to be part of Saturday’s Junior Ranger Day at the Grand Canyon. Two story times (one inside, one on the plaza), a Q & A with a Park Ranger and a book signing.
Thank you to the Grand Canyon Conservancy staff and Ranger Stephan for making this once-in-a-lifetime event a reality! Thank you to the families at the story times who listened and asked questions, and all who requested a signed copy of the book. Thank you to my family members for hauling my stuff and cheering me on. Overwhelmed with gratitude for one of life’s most special days.
Such a fun, lively The Twig Book Shop Event, filling in for the amazing Miss Anastasia’s story time!
So many families braved early morning sprinkles for the IF I WERE A PARK RANGER story time. And a HUGE hats off to extra special guest Park Ranger Sanya from the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park who answered questions about being a park ranger and told kids about fun events at the Missions and the Junior Ranger Program.
Families helped create a thank you card for Ranger Sanya – and the kids decorated their own junior ranger vests (made from reused shopping bags) and ranger hats, too.
This month, I’ll be guest author at the GRAND CANYON…and at two great San Antonio book shops, too! Can’t wait to meet with fellow National Park Fans and the rock star Park Rangers!
I’ll be at the Twig Book Shop Friday, subbing for Miss Anastasia’s Story Time. But the big news…a National Park Ranger will be our extra special guest! Bring the kids for story time and crafts at our National Parks Celebration! Located at San Antonio’s Pearl Complex. Thank you to the Twig Book Shop staff for this fun graphic to share.
Thank you to the Twig Book Shop for sharing this photo from last month’s Children’s Literature event. It was wonderful to present with my friend and fellow San Antonio author Diane Gonzales Bertrand and to meet the Poet Mariachi Daniel Garcia Ordaz!
Much thanks to everyone who came out to see us – especially the family from out of town who made our event part of their Spring Break trip to San Antonio!
Happening THIS Friday at The Twig Book Shop. You’re invited to stop in! It’s a lovely time of year to visit the lively Pearl Complex. I’ll be appearing with these two Texas authors and sharing a bit about my Texas-based A DOG’S DAY chapter book, I AM JAX, PROTECTOR OF THE RANCH.
